Should you still learn New Languages? (I asked, AI answered)

Is learning new languages still worth it?

With AI technology getting smarter every day, many people wonder:
“Do we still need to learn new languages?”

Do we still need to learn new languages?

To find out, I decided to ask AI directly.
I asked ChatGPT about why learning Korean is still valuable,
whether Talk To Me In Korean is a good resource for learners,
and even challenged it to write a commercial for us.

Here’s what happened!

Is Talk To Me In Korean a Good Resource?

When asked, ChatGPT responded:

“Talk To Me In Korean is a popular resource for Korean learners,
offering a wide range of materials including podcasts, videos, and textbooks. Many users have found it helpful.”

We agree!
Our team at Talk To Me In Korean (TTMIK) has always aimed to make Korean learning fun, structured, and accessible for everyone around the world.
So hearing this from AI made us smile.

TTMIK is a popular resource for Korean learners. Many users have found it helpful.

Tell me why more people should learn Korean.

Next, I asked ChatGPT why people should still learn Korean in today’s world.
Here are the key reasons it gave:

  1. Economic growth and cultural exchange
  2. Brain development
  3. Access to media
  4. Personal growth

Sure, these are familiar points. Nevertheless, it's happy to hear that the AI technology confirmed what I was thinking. So this is why, in the opinion of AI, learn Korean.

What Happened When I Spoke to AI in Korean

Out of curiosity, I asked ChatGPT to respond in Korean.
It replied:

“한국어를 배우면 경제 성장, 문화 교류, 두뇌 발달, 미디어 접근, 개인 성장 등 많은 이점이 있습니다.”
Same question, but the answer was much shorter when asked in Korean.

Accurate, but really short and a bit robotic.
When I followed up with “Talk To Me In Korean,” it replied:

“Talk To Me In Korean는 한국어 학습자들에게 인기 있는 자료를 제공합니다. 팟캐스트, 비디오, 서적 등 다양한 자료를 제공하며,...
Talk To Me In Korean는 한국어 학습자들에게 인기 있는 자료를 제공합니다.

You know our brand name, Talk To Me In Korean, and our website's name can be a sentence that you can say to other Korean speakers.
So, I wrote this as a sentence. "Please talk to me in Korean." And this is what I got.

"안녕하세요! 저는 한국어를 가르치는 챗봇입니다. 한국어를 배우고 싶다면, 언제든지 문의해 주세요. 저는 한국어를 가르치는 데 도움이 될 것입니다."

Should People Still Learn Languages in the Age of AI?

Should People Still Learn Languages in the Age of AI?

Finally, I asked the big question:

“With the advancement of AI, should people still learn new languages?”

And the answer was the same as I expected. Although it has certainly advanced to the point where machine translation can be helpful, they do not replace the fun and engaging aspect of actually talking to someone in their language. It can't replace the benefits of being able to speak a language fluently.
